Jennifer Huntley grew up on rural Long Island before the Malls
and runaway housing development. The forests and beaches along
the Sound were idyllic and isolated. Blessed with a natural sense
of direction Jennifer discovered old bridle paths in the woods
behind her home. They became a place for discovery and connecting
with nature and a direct route to her best friend Cathy’’s
house.
Jennifer graduated from The Masters School in Dobbs Ferry, New
York and from The University of Denver. She began her writing
career as a news reporter at a ‘sun-up-to-sun-down’
radio station in Islip, Long Island, and later for WNBC radio.
Her careeer took an eighteen year detour for marriage and children.
An Outward Bound
course in the high sierra of California literally jumpstarted
a new phase of life. “After backing off a 140 foot sheer
rock wall and rappelling to the bottom, nothing seemed too scary.”
Jennifer was a founding member of The Yellow Cote Players, appearing
in comedic roles. Sharing her need to explore with others she
has been a hike leader for Nassau Outdoor and Hiking Club and
Shorewalkers. She continues to shows visitors the real New York
as a "Greeter" and writer for Big
Apple Greeter in New York City.
Travels have taken her down the Bio Bio River in Chile (before
the dam), to Tibet and Tanzania. But it would be a benign walking
trip in southern France that became the inspiration for her book,
Eight Days in Provence.
“I wrote the story so that I could remember it. I had no
intention of publishing. When it was finished, I put the manuscript
away in a desk drawer where it stayed for years.” At the
urging of a few trusted friends, Jennifer sent the story to Rosalie
Ink Publications.
Eight Days in Provence, a
moment of sensualite was published in 2004 and selected as
Book of the Year Finalist by ForeWord Magazine, a monthly trade
publication for Independent Presses. She has appeared at bookstores
in the United States and was featured on The Joan Hamburg Show
on WOR radio, The Jordan Rich Show on WBZ radio, Boston and PBS-WLIW-TV
channel 21.
Jennifer lives in New York City and Saint James, Long Island.
